YOUR New Year’s Resolutions

I’ve made my resolutions, now it’s time for me to help you make yours!

These, of course, are suggestions that you can take or leave but if you’re looking for inspiration or confirmation, this is it.

  1. Find a type of exercise you actually love. Story time: my mother is one of those people that wanted to do something about her current fitness level and tried to sign up for gym memberships and even beginner volleyball classes but nothing stuck and all motivation would peter out quickly. Just 3 months ago, she signed up for some aquafit classes at the local YMCA because she heard it was good for your back and she’s been going around 3 times a week since then! She’s become one of those people that complains when she had to miss a class! So you CAN get fit or lose those pounds, you just need to find your method! The gym is not for everyone, it might be competition or environment that gives you a reason to keep coming back to it.
  2. Read one book per month. Reading is something that people feel like they don’t have time for but books are, in my opinion, a great part of life and important to expand your imagination. So by setting aside your commute to listen to audiobooks or before bed to read a chapter or two, it is definitely plausible to get through at least one book each moon cycle. Definitely try to get a diverse selection from fantasy to non-fiction because the world is huge and there’s no telling what you might learn.
  3. Invest in friendships. You have no idea how important this is. It’s so easy to let great people slip out of your lives or to not initiate getting to really know someone because you already have your family to talk to. Coffee dates are easy to plan, letter writing is not dead and potlucks are really fun. You don’t have to become a social butterfly but do hold on to the friends you have and make sure they know that they are important to you! That isn’t done enough in my opinion.
  4. Create. Totally open-ended, totally depends on what you enjoy and what you’d love to try. I believe we all have something inside of us that needs to create things whether it be an elegant computer code, your very first knitted scarf or a story. I’m sure there’s something that you’re passionate about and if you’re passionate about it you will totally be able to make the time for it in this coming year!

These are my tips to making your year a success (hopefully), let me know what you would have added to the list or what you’re taking from mine!

Resolutions 2015

“new year, new me” I say as I overtake the body of my next host.

I’m totally okay with this being the first you hear of me in this new year.

I’ve always been on the fence about making resolutions since it just feels like I’m setting myself up for failure but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take amirite guys? (so inspirational)

1. Read my Bible every day. I think it’s important to put away time for that kind of thing. My life gets real hectic real quickly and stuff falls to the side but I want to make it a priority to actually try to keep this up.

2. Do something school related every day. I know me and I know that I will try to rationalize that going to school counts as school but this is me on the record saying that it isn’t. Even if it’s just reading through the notes I took that day, it’ll help me immensely to not fall behind which is the major cause of any stress in my life. Also when coop applications start I have to be on that like a lion.

3. Keep my room clean.  It’ll feel really awesome and I like the idea of everything having its own place. I know how quickly it can become a danger zone so I’d like to avoid that because the cleanup is way worse than just throwing a couple things into the laundry bin.

4. Learn how to do my eyebrows better.  I know, this isn’t that important and life changing but eyebrows really do make a face look better or worse so that is something that would be nice to have.

5. Keep in better contact with my friends.  Man, I am so bad at this. I can’t even keep a text conversation going without hour long pauses where my friends are probably definitely sure I died and have already made calls about the flower arrangements at my funeral before I get back to them. And those are the people I see pretty regularly. The people that I have no common locations to run into them are the worst because I super want to continue being friends with them but losing contact is just way too easy.

6. Be less anemic.  I’m not actually anemic I’m just on the verge. But it’s enough for me not to be able to donate blood like 52% of the time which is super annoying so eating iron rich foods and all that good stuff is going to be mandatory for this year. Donating is the bomb.

So yeah, these are my resolutions of 2015, I’d love to know yours down in the comments!

Resolutions 2014

Not off to a good start here, especially considering one of my resolutions.

It’s a few days into the year of 2014 so I figured it would be a good time to make my resolutions publicly on the internet. That way, when I fail miserably, more people will be able to point and laugh. I’ve never been too big on resolutions; I like to make big, life-changing decisions at an easier time like, for example, not in the dead of winter. But it’ll be good to have them written down for when I want them.

1. Stop procrastinating. This is a serious issue in my life that can easily be resolved with me just doing stuff when I get it. Much less stress, and better quality output. I seriously don’t understand myself. And looking at the syllabi (syllabuses??) for my coming semester, there is literally no time to slack off. I just need to go hard for the next 4 months and then I’ll be free!

2. Be less selfish. Now, I’m not a horrible person but I do notice things about myself that I don’t like. And I’d like to change that. It’d be super cool to put other people first and have that become a habit pretty much, instead of it taking effort. Even little things like giving my sister the bigger bowl of ice cream even though I scooped it for everyone. I have very good role models within my friends and family so hopefully by following their lead I’ll succeed!

3. Read 100 books. This normally isn’t a big deal for me. I usually read more than 100 books per year, according to my Goodreads, but this past year fell very, very short of my goal. I know exactly what went wrong though: 1) I didn’t read a single book the entire summer because of camp, 2) I started university which takes a lot of effort and 3) I got a laptop which is just a gateway drug to procrastination. Not going to be at camp for the entire time this summer and hopefully will learn to manage my time which should equate to more books read!!

4. Clean my room. Like deep clean. Scour through every box and corner under my bed, in my desk or in my closet and just make it nice. The outside looks nice (sometimes) but there’s so much hiding in all the nooks and crannies so I think it’s time to fix that.

There we have it! Tell me your resolutions, if you have any. And if you have any advice for how to achieve mine, then, by all means, let me know!

Yesterday was the first day of 2014 but more importantly THE DAY SHERLOCK SEASON THREE STARTED. It has been two whole years since we last same anything new which is definitely not healthy for obsessive fans.

Let me get this out of the way: this will NOT be a spoiler-free post. If you don’t want to be spoiled, simply stop reading. If you’ve already watched, you may carry on. And if you’re like me and actually kind of enjoy spoilers, then go ahead.

The whole thing was so surreal. There was just way too much to take in, from Anderson being a hardcore Sherlock-is-alive dude to all those kisses!! The dialogue was amazing and there were so many beautiful, giffable moments. Check out my tumblr for my favourite internet reactions and gifsets.

So let’s talk characters. Sherlock managed to become more human with all his emotions yet still couldn’t get it quite right with John right off the bat. His confusion at why John was not ecstatic at his return two years later after dying by pretending to be a french waiter was just beautiful. “John is not happy with this? But I was so clever??”

Then Molly, who’s pretty much my favourite character because I’m the most like her: awkward, science-y and in love with Sherlock, gets the BEST SCENES EVER. Like at the very beginning she gets the most knee-weakening kiss from Sherlock himself (yes it was all in Anderson’s head. no I do not care) which I may have replayed multiple times and then she gets the most sincere gratitude/apology from Sherlock. Unheard of and definitely necessary after how he’s treated her in past episodes. I just had so many feelings about her!! Oh and at the end when everyone’s eyeing Tom, Molly’s fiance, because he’s dressed exactly like Sherlock, that actually took me a while to understand. //shame

Mrs. Hudson was adorable as always, her reactions were basically my reactions when Sherlock and friends were chilling at 221B. Sad that there wasn’t very much Lestrade and what was up with Sherly forgetting his name?? Graham? Really? And I want to like Anderson and his complete reversal but I’m really just weirded out by it. He’s like one of those gross things you find outside that make you want to poke it with a stick to see what’s in it but also just want to burn it and everything around it.

And finally John and Mary. SO ADORABLE. John and his moustache that really did age him and all his facial expressions and sassyness. Mary and every little thing about her. She is the chillest and coolest person ever! “Sherlock’s not dead? Interrupting my awkward marriage proposal? Nbd, I might even side with him after John beats him up” – Mary’s thoughts probably. So excited to see more of her and the bromance that seems to be popping up between her and Sherlock. If there was any way to placate the Johnlock shippers, this was it.

I basically talked about everything that happened in this episode by doing those character brain dumbs (sneaky me) so that’s basically it. Except for that beautiful montage between Sherlock and John where they’re completing each other’s sentences was so well done like bless you Gatiss! Oh and WHO PUTS AN OFF SWITCH ON A BOMB but the thing is I ain’t even mad. But I could be mad about how we don’t actually really know how he did it. There was never a definite answer and that makes me antsy. I wonder if they’ll keep doing those theories until the actual one pops up? Or if the one he told Anderson was the real deal?

I leave you now with my favourite quotes:

“Oh, please. Killing me? That’s so two years ago.” — Sherlock

“I like trains.” — That Guy

“I don’t shave for Sherlock Holmes.” — John Watson

“F-cough” — Sherlock & John

“What’s his name?”

“I’m not gay.”

— Mrs. Hudson & John

“Not how I would’ve done it.” — Anderson

“Use your mind palace!!” — John
