Making A Path

I have always said that being an older sibling is like carving a path through a snowstorm of freshly fallen snow.

It is much harder to be the first to trudge through a heap of untouched snow than to be the one that follows after. The metaphor here is that the first kid is basically the guinea pig for the parents, the rules are usually tougher on them while the following children usually get to have things at earlier ages and need less arguments before doing new things.

I just was reminded of this thought because it snowed like 40cm today and my sister and I had to go to the store for some things and she was stepping in every single one of my footprints right behind me.
